Specific Claims Tribunal Starts Up

First Nations finally have a tribunal they can take their land claims to.
Yesterday the Specific Claims Tribunal officially opened.
Although the specific claims act passed in 2008 the federal government didn’t kick-start it until this week.
The Tribunal is composed of six judges who will be able to make binding settlements on cases that have gotten bogged down.
Assembly of First Nations chief Shawn Atleo says he’s happy the tribunal is putting aside administrative concerns and getting right to work.
