Wild Rice Council Meets in La Ronge

The 26th annual meeting of the Saskatchewan Wild Rice Council was held today in La Ronge.

Northern Agriculture Specialist Gerry Ivanochko presented a production report for the U.S.A and Canada.

Production was down again in 2010 and weather conditions combined with low prices also caused problems for wild rice producers.

Information was also shared on permits, licensing, crop insurance, organic certification and the climate.

SWRC Chair Bill Plunz is retiring so it was his final annual meeting in that position.
