A 25-year-old woman was sentenced yesterday to six years in prison for killing her uncle.

Seanna Rae Nahnepowisk pled guilty to manslaughter in a Regina courtroom last week.

The defense and crown jointly recommended six years.

Prosecuter Mitch Miller says although Nahnepowisk and her uncle were both intoxicated, and her uncle was the aggressor, this was not a case of self-defense.

Nahnepowisk will receive credit for four and a half months spent in custody.

Court heard that 40-year-old Wendell Toto died in his home on the Muscowpetung First Nation after being stabbed in the arm by his niece.
