The federal government is joining the province in saying it doesn’t want to see its money used on a severance package for Guy Lonechild.

It’s been less than a week since the FSIN announced it was severing ties with the former chief.

According to reports, the FSIN will spend $600,000 on buy-out packages for Lonechild and his staff.

Premier Brad Wall has stated he doesn’t want to see public monies used on the package.

Aboriginal Affairs spokesman Trevor Sutter says Ottawa feels the same way.

Sutter adds the government will be checking the books at the end of the next fiscal year.
