The Office of the Treaty Commissioner says it has some sympathy for the Lean Man First Nation.
The band lost its reserve in 1905, and its members have been living on the Mosquito First Nation ever since.
OTC executive director Harry Lafond spoke at a forum on the issue in North Battleford yesterday.
He said his office will do what it can to help.
Lafond also noted there are several bands in the province in the same predicament.
Mary Wahobin, the hereditary chief, fought all her life to get their reserve back before passing away last year without realizing her dream.
Her grandfather was persuaded by an Indian Agent to give the land up.
Wahobin’s granddaughter, Christine, says she will continue efforts to have the reserve restored to the band.
Mosquito band chief Noel Stone, Jr. says he and his council will look at the idea.
Lawyer Deanne Kasokeo says she is researching the issue — but so far, there is not much money to move it along.
