Battlefords Cougar Sighting Called Into Question

Something caused long scratches on two North Battleford horses this week — but conservation officers are pretty sure it wasn’t a cougar, as first thought.
The RCMP were called to an acreage near North Battleford at 7:30 yesterday morning.
Two horses there had long scrapes along their backs, sides and legs.
But cougars don’t tend to cause scratches like that, at least according to Saskatchewan Environment spokesman Gary Provencher.
He says the marks are more consistent with a member of the dog family, such as a coyote.
The matter is still under investigation.
