The shuttered sawmill in Big River has officially changed hands.
On Tuesday EACOM Timber Corporation announced it had sold the plant to Carrier Forest Products for 7.5 million dollars.
EACOM says it made the move after it was unable to obtain any timber rights from the Saskatchewan government.
Big River mayor Brian Brownfield says news that Carrier wants to restart the town sawmill has created an air of optimism in the community.
Brownfield adds the building will be the flagship of Carrier’s operation once it gets started.
