Federal Gov’t Must Release Program Documents

The federal government has been ordered to produce internal emails and other material outlining how it decided who would and wouldn’t be eligible for a lucrative Aboriginal lending program.
It was a few years ago that Ottawa started the Loan Loss Reserve Initiative.
The program essentially gives companies in Canada some security should the money they loan to on-reserve businesses not be repaid.
However, the government only allowed 5 groups to enter, prompting others to label the process as unfair.
One of those groups, the Tribal Wi-Chi-Way-Win Capital Corporation of Manitoba ended up taking the government to court.
Ottawa now has until October 1st to release the material.
