Judge Rules SIGA Board Chair Be Reinstated

For the second time in a month, a Court of Queen’s Bench justice has overturned a decision taken by the FSIN or one of its institutions.

Last Friday, a judge released a decision that says the Board of the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority did not have the authority to remove its Board Chair, lawyer Kirk Goodtrack.

Two weeks ago, a judge ruled the dismissal of now resigned FSIN Chief Guy Lonechild invalid and ordered him reinstated as well.

SIGA’s board passed a resolution in July that reassigned the position of Chair to the Board’s Vice-Chair, Edward Henderson, Chief of the Montreal Lake Cree Nation.

However, the judge says that action is contrary to SIGA’s legislation and bylaws and is therefore void, noting the FSIN’s Economic and Community Development Commission is the body that appoints Board Chairs.
