The Law Society of Saskatchewan says a Metis lawyer from Saskatoon is no longer entitled to practice law in the province.
The law society says Michelle Leclair-Harding has been handed an interim disciplinary suspension for apparently abandoning her legal practice and clients and for failing to respond to correspondence from the society.
A trustee has been appointed to oversee her practice.
Law society spokesman Tim Huber says this measure was taken to make sure the public was protected.
He also notes this action has been taken without a hearing, and Leclair-Harding has the right to challenge the suspension and have it reviewed.
Leclair-Harding is a former legal counsel for the Metis Nation – Saskatchewan, and was the lead lawyer in a couple of Metis rights cases in Saskatchewan and Alberta.
