The President of the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan says that he respected the strength and knowledge of the late Phillip Chartier despite their political differences.
Robert Doucette says Chartier deserves to be recognized as a Metis icon for his three decades of service as a Metis local president, area director, MN-S executive member and Provincial Metis Council member.
Chartier passed away over the weekend after a lengthy illness.
The funeral service will be in Buffalo Narrows on Wednesday.
