Saskatchewan is moving into the world of nuclear medicine.

Advanced Education Minister Rob Norris today signed a memorandum of understanding with Hitachi-Nuclear Energy.

$10 million in funding will be used to facilitate and support research in nuclear medicine, nuclear safety and small reactor design.

Half of the money will come from Innovation Saskatchewan, while Hitachi will provide the other half.

Among the projects being considered is research into the reclamation of unused uranium fuel rods.

However, the government insists any decision on whether to pursue nuclear power in Saskatchewan is still many years away.
