A sod-turning was held this morning in Regina on the site of a new First Nations affordable housing development in Regina.

The provincial government is providing $2.3 million in funding from the First Nations Housing Trust Fund.

Regina City Councillor Mike O’Donell says the area has a lot to offer residents.

The project had received opposition last year from some area residents concerned about negative impacts in a lower income neighborhood.

File Hills Qu’Appelle Chairman Edmund Bellegarde is with Silver Sage Housing and says they want the housing project to be positive for all concerned.

Bellegarde says the 24-unit project will cost around $5 million dollars upon completion.
