A decision by Ottawa to install an artwork of stained glass in honour of the Residential Schools Legacy is being met with approval by a native group.
The Assembly of First Nations says the move, announced this morning by Aboriginal Affairs Minister John Duncan, commemorates a piece of shared history in Canada.
Early indications are that a panel of experts will be struck to find an aboriginal artist capable of creating the piece before it is permanently installed in Centre Block on Parliament Hill.
Chief Shawn Atleo says steps like this can help lead to lasting change and reconciliation between First Nations and other Canadians.
