Members of the Mosquito First Nation awoke to bad news today.

Their band office and medical clinic burned down.

The RCMP say the fire was first reported at around 6:50 a.m.

An investigation into the cause is underway.

Band councillor Milton Oxebin says, fortunately, it looks like no one was hurt.

Oxebin says the band office and medical clinic were built about 10 years ago.

He also says the band will be discussing its options with Aboriginal Affairs.

Fellow band councillor Glenda Wahobin, who holds the band’s health portfolio, is very upset with the loss.

Wahobin says she has talked with staff members, who she says are devastated.
