A four-year-old boy with leukemia was recently given the title “Sergeant for a Day” at the Cumberland House RCMP detachment.

Kayden Crane is from the Cumberland House Cree Nation.

Two years ago, Kayden was diagnosed with a form of leukemia which destroys white blood cells.

Kayden has been receiving chemotherapy treatments in Saskatoon once a month for the past two years.

Sgt. Dave Brunner of the Cumberland House detachment says he got the idea to lift the boy’s spirits this way from a similar situation in the United States.

By all accounts, treatments for Kayden have been going well and the family is hoping his last one will be next September.

Kaden’s duties last Thursday included inspecting the detachment and touring the community in the police truck.

For working the day, Kayden received an RCMP hoodie and baseball cap.

Brunner says the boy was “all smiles” that day.
