The Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan has struck a new partnership with the Saskatoon Tribal Council.
The deal is aimed at boosting job numbers for First Nations, along with better training opportunities.
STC Tribal Chief Felix Thomas says the deal is collaborative in nature and does not have specified targets.
The two sides will work together to create opportunities for First Nations within specific areas of the potash industry.
PCS has been criticized in the past for not hiring enough First Nations workers.
Company president Garth Moore says the agreement reflects PotashCorp’s commitment to ensure First Nations people have the ability to take advantage of opportunities created by its expanding operations.
Meantime, Thomas has apparently been chosen by the tribal council to lead it for another three-year term.
A communications official with the STC reports Thomas was acclaimed after no one chose to run against him.
