A Metis woman says a Metis settlement near the Battlefords should be designated as a UNESCO cultural site or a federal heritage site.
Marilyn Richardson made that suggestion during a meeting in Battleford Wednesday night.
Richardson says the community of Bresaylor is unique for a couple of reasons.
One, it’s a settlement of English Metis.
And two the name is a combination of three last names: Bremner, Sayers, and Taylor.
“There’s so much that’s still there physically, it’ll be good to have that area designated possibly as a historic site, whether that be provincially, nationally or a UNESCO cultural site.”
The gathering was called by the Gabriel Dumont Institute and Parks Canada to collect Metis history in the area.
