An expert in the wild fur market says he hopes cold weather descends on China and Russia soon.
Dave Bewick of North American Fur Auctions says the economies in those two countries are the most important ones for the industry which is why it’s important residents over there begin buying more product.
Despite the warm weather in Asia, Bewick remains optimistic about the upcoming year.
He says most species should do well with the possible exception of the beaver.
“Anything for trimming should do well this year. We saw otter take off last year, muskrats did very well last year, wild mink picked up, lynx did very well, especially for the brighter-bellied cats, so like I said everything but beaver and we’re working on that market to get it turned around.”
He adds the Beaver market has been difficult for a while.
