It was a historic day in Regina this morning as the Metis Infinity Flag was raised in the City Hall square – a first for any city in Canada.

Mayor Pat Fiacco says the flag goes beyond a symbol but is meant to instill pride for youth and promote future opportunities for residents.

Fiacco says two Aboriginal students in their first year of carpentry told him how important it was to them to have that opportunity for an education.

The mayor also thanked the Oakes family and Elmer Eashappie for working with the Metis community for today’s flag raising.
