The Saskatchewan Party roared to victory in the 2011 election.

Premier Brad Wall’s party was elected or leading in 49 ridings by late Monday night.

The NDP was elected or leading in nine ridings, while the Greens and Liberals were both shut out.

In northern Saskatchewan, the story was much different with both NDP incumbents Buckley Belanger and Doyle Vermette hanging onto their seats.

Belanger captured 63.8% of the vote — easily outdistancing the Saskatchewan Party’s Bobby Woods, who finished 846 votes behind.

The New Democrats’ percentage of the vote was almost identical in Cumberland, where Vermette garnered 63.4% of the vote.

The Saskatchewan Party’s Joe Hordyski finished in second, 1556 votes behind Vermette — while the Green Party’s Samuel Hardlotte finished well back in third place.

Other races of note saw Saskatchewan Party incumbent Jeremy Harrison hang onto his seat in Meadow Lake.

He defeated NDP challenger Helen Ben, who finished 1,691 votes behind.

A number of Aboriginal candidates were elected across the province — including the SaskParty’s Roger Parent who won in Saskatoon Meewasin; Greg Lawrence, also of the SaskParty, who shocked Deb Higgins in Moose Jaw; and SaskParty candidate Jennifer Campeau who dumped incumbent Andy Iwanchuk in Saskatoon Westview.
