A descendant of a member of Louis Riel’s inner circle took part in a vigil for the late Metis leader in Regina last night.
It was the Regina Riel Metis Council’s third annual remembrance event, which was held on the 126th anniversary of Riel’s execution in the city.
Joanna Potyondi is a descendent of Pierre Gariepy, who was a member of Riel’s council.
Potyondi says last night’s vigil was a humbling experience.
She also says she would like to see more education about her ancestor in schools.
