A tragic shooting in Regina involving two family members reached closure last week.
46-year old Dennis Dustyhorn recieved a two-year suspended sentence for pleading guilty to mischief endangering a life.
Three years ago Dustyhorn accidently shot his nephew.
21-year old Stanley Alex Bigsky died in hospital after being shot by a rifle that was accidently fired in the backyard of a Regina residence.
Crown Prosecutor Lee Hnatiuk who had requested a sentence of 2 to 3 years—says the court took it into consideration that it was an accident.
He says Dustyhorn had family support as well as the support of the victim’s mother.
“It’s tough in these kinds of situations where you’ve got the potential to lose two family members from one tragic accident. It’s something the court was mindful of as well.”
No alcohol was involved in the incident.
