A warning is going out to residents of Wollaston Lake who may be thinking of driving south to do some holiday shopping.
According to the general manager of the Hatchet Lake First Nation’s economic development corporation, driving on the ice is still not safe.
Anne Robillard says workers are currently out on the ice checking its thickness, but right now they’re telling motorists to stay off.
Robillard says she knows many people want to get to Prince Albert before Christmas.
She says if any drivers do venture out onto the ice, they do so at their own risk.
Robillard says the ice is usually safe to drive on in January, adding her group will keep residents posted about the situation.
Community leaders have long been calling for governments to build an all-weather road that would connect Wollaston Lake to the rest of the province.
