A 63-year-old man from Southend was recently rescued by a police helicopter after becoming stranded at his cabin on Reindeer Lake.

RCMP say the man set out by boat on November 10th and was reported overdue on November 29th — 15 days after he was scheduled to return.

By then, area lakes and rivers had begun to freeze, making travel by boat or snowmobile impossible.

RCMP used the chopper to rescue the man last Thursday.

Police say he had run out of his required daily medication two days before, and was getting low on food.

Sgt. Paul Dawson says the man made the right call to return to the cabin after starting to walk home the previous day.

Mounties say the man wasn’t hurt in the ordeal.
