Saskatchewan Highways has imposed a temporary weight restriction on a bridge north of La Loche that was damaged earlier this week.
Spokesman Doug Wakabayashi says a truck with an oversized load struck one of the bridge’s steel trusses late Monday.
As a result, a 35,000 kg weight restriction has been put in place until engineers getter a better idea of what repairs are needed.
However, Wakabayashi says it has been determined that the bridge is safe for regular motorists to use — and that’s why it’s not being closed.
The bridge is situated on Highway 955 over the Clearwater River, 63 kilometres north of La Loche.
It accommodates traffic to and from the Cluff Lake uranium mine, as well as Oilsands Quest and Cenovus Energy exploration sites.
