Up to 450 jobs could soon be created for Saskatchewan Aboriginal people in the oil patch.
That’s part of an agreement between the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council, the Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs, Service Canada, and the oil and gas industry.
The deal in Saskatchewan is one of three such pilot projects across western Canada, according to BATC Executive Director Neil Sasakamoose.
Sasakamoose says the tribal councils’ job is to screen people to find suitable workers.
The oil industry will hire 250 to 450 of those people over three years.
The total cost of the project is estimated to be $2.8 million.
