A deal was signed Wednesday to clear barriers to education for Aboriginal people in the Northwest.

Under the agreement, the Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs and North West Regional College will partner on education.

They’ll work to eliminate barriers such as affordable housing and daycare.

Saulteaux First Nation chief Velma Night says transportation is another barrier.

She says a driver education course might help.

“You know once you get your driver’s license that’s independence and people need to feel that confidence.  Getting a driver’s license is totally independence.”

North West Regional College CEO Bryan Nylander says the agreement is in effect as of Wednesday.
