A 44-month jail sentence has been handed out to a Meadow Lake man for the beating death of a fellow city resident.
In a Battleford court room, Kyle Villeneuve pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter in the death of Joey Merasty.
He was sentenced to four years in jail.
But 128 days were knocked off that sentence for time spent in remand, or on court-ordered release conditions.
Villeneuve was banned from owning or possessing firearms for 10 years.
He must also submit a sample of his DNA to authorities.
The 43-year-old Merasty died in a Saskatoon hospital in 2008.
His death occurred several days after he and Villeneuve got in a fight outside a Meadow Lake bar.
