SaskPower has begun to clear out brush from under one of its northern power lines.
The work is being done on the existing line running from the Island Falls dam to the Key Lake area.
Company vice president Mike Marsh says the work is needed to cut down trees growing up from under the lines.
He explains SaskPower is also hoping to establish an additional line within the next few years that would run along the same route.
However, he stresses they haven’t received environmental approval for that yet, and still need to consult local stakeholders:
“No community has had an open house on the new proposed line, as yet. We’re in the process of setting up those dates, and those communities will be contacted in the near future for a date for an open house in that area.”
Marsh adds once consultations have been done, SaskPower will submit an application for the additional line to the Ministry of Environment.
