Roughly two thirds of the SaskTel scholarships handed out by SaskTel last year went to Aboriginal students.
SaskTel spokesman Andy Tate says 14 of 22 scholarships issued by SaskTel last year went to SIIT or Metis students.
Tate says it’s part of an effort by SaskTel to help Aboriginal people get into the workforce.
Six $1,500 scholarships went to SIIT students, while eight $2,000 scholarships went to Metis students.
The scholarships all went to students taking post secondary education in telecommunications.
Tate says the scholarships are part of SaskTel’s plan to replace employees who retire.
He says as babyboomers age, lots of SaskTel employees will retire in the coming years.
