A boil water advisory in Prince Albert has been upgraded to a boil water order.

Samples taken from the water supply on Saturday and Sunday revealed the presence of giardia in low-concentrations.

Cryptosporidium was also detected but in smaller densities.

Dr. James Irvine is the acting chief medical health officer for the city right now.

He says the order doesn’t change any of the safety measures that were already in place.

“The same precautionary measures are in place for that in terms of boiling water.  We’re not quite as concerned about the concentration of the Cryptosporidium as we are of the giardia.”

A specialist is being brought in to flush the system.

Residents are being told to bring their drinking water to a rolling boil for 1 minute before they use it.

If you wash your dishes by hand you should put a capful of bleach into the water.
