First Nations teens in the Qu’Appelle Valley are getting a first-hand look at how to organize their own events.
A number of youth aged 12 to 19 years are attending a youth leadership conference put on by the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council.
Organizer Holly Yuzicapi says the tribal council is pushing ahead with a youth strategy aimed at showing kids how they fit into the community.
Yuzicapi says they are hoping to teach the youth about the various roles they can play within their home reserves.
She says all of the teens will be given the names of individuals in their communities who they can go to for help.
Yuzicappi adds the tribal council is hoping to visit more reserves this year so they can see the strategy in effect.
