The national chief of the Assembly of First Nations got an earful today at the opening session of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations winter legislative assembly.
Shawn Atleo was present when a resolution condemning an AFN action plan on dealing with the Crown passed by a vote count of 47-0, with no abstentions.
Many of the chiefs said they felt the AFN was ignoring Saskatchewan through its dealings with the government, and they also don’t support its latest plan on education.
Onion Lake Chief Wallace Fox pressed Atleo on what he was going to do with the FSIN resolution.
Atleo insisted he was listening to the chiefs and would take what they had to say to heart.
He added he won’t dictate what the next steps are.
This week’s assembly is taking place on the Whitecap Dakota First Nation and continues through tomorrow.
