Aboriginal Affairs is developing a tool to help First Nations track progress on acquiring more land.
Margaret Buist is Aboriginal Affairs’ Director General of Lands and Environmental Management.
She says in order to spur economic development, more and more bands are looking for land that has minerals on it, or is close to municipalities.
Buist says that land tends to be owned by others, so negotiations on price can take a long time.
Buist announced the development of the tracking tool during a Senate hearing today.
