The school on the Waterhen Lake First Nation is facing a fiscal crunch.
Rising teacher’s salaries are pushing the yearly budget to the brink.
Principal John Walter says they’re just not getting enough money from the department of aboriginal affairs to keep pace with the costs:
“Basically it means that I’m either…you know… going to have to look at a few of those teachers…and unfortunately it might mean a couple might not be coming back next year.”
Walter says he’ll do all he can to keep the teachers he has in place, but he stresses the money has to come from somewhere and the end of the fiscal year is looming.
