The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority says there could be normal spring runoff this year, depending on how much more snow falls this winter.

Authority spokesperson Dale Hjertaas says the level of Lac La Ronge is still nearly half-a-metre higher than average.

Hjertaas says the lake level and that of the Churchill River have both subsided since the fall.

He says the water level is still above normal, but it’s been slowly drawing down all winter at a steady rate and will continue to do so throughout the summer and get back into a more normal range — provided there is normal spring runoff.

Hjertaas says for most of the province’s northern forest, the normal amount of snowfall has been received this winter.

He says the western grain belt is the driest area of the province right now, but southeastern regions have also received very little snowfall.
