North Battleford’s Sakewew High School wants to take its students back to the land.
Vice-principal Reid Stewart says students have lost connections to their culture and traditions.
For that reason, Stewart says the school is working on a experiential-based curriculum that would see some students learn about plants and animals in an outdoor setting on area reserves.
Stewart, during the warmer months, students would spend the entire school day outside.
In the winter, they would attend class indoors.
They would also take Cree immersion.
Stewart says they will make sure students still get all the credits they need for university or college.
He says they hope to obtain approval from their school board this spring so it can be implemented this fall.
