A former member of the National Parole Board is concerned about a lack of of Aboriginal people on that panel.
John Dorion says current board members have told him no Aboriginal people were included in the latest round of appointments announced this month.
Dorion says in order for the situation to change, more people need to become involved:
“The Aboriginal people have to speak out. So we need to put some pressure on them. I think it’s important for Aboriginals to be part of the National Parole Board.”
Dorion says Aboriginal people on the parole board play an important role, considering the high number of Aboriginal people in federal prisons.
