March 28th is election day at the Cumberland House Cree Nation and 17 candidates have stepped forward.

The three people running for the position of chief are incumbent Lorne Stewart and challengers Barry Carriere and Peter Laliberty.

There are five council positions and 14 people are in the running — including incumbents William “Bill” Cook, Eric Laliberty, Vice-Chief Angus McKenzie, Rose Morin and former chief Walter Sewap.

The chief and council at Cumberland House serve three-year terms.
