A Tory Senator is questioning why funds for national organizations are being cut back if they are helping Metis people become healthier.
Senator Patrick Brazeau spoke at a hearing of the Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples today.
Brazeau says cuts have been made to many national organizations, including the Metis National Council.
Health Canada Director General Kathy Langlois says, while unfortunate, the “cutbacks are a reality of any kind of budget prioritization process where you have reduced funds to work with”.
Langlois says, as a result, Health Canada is ensuring the money goes to community groups directly.
