The La Ronge and District Chamber of Commerce could be heading into the final days of its existence.

The organization recently put out a call for members, but only six people attended its annual general meeting held last night.

Chamber president Gary Veteri says there are a number of things the organization could be doing in town, if more people would become involved:

“We were hoping to do like a spring trade show, maybe, this spring here over at the marina here — but if you don’t have people involved, you can’t do anything like that.  You know, a lot of businesses in town complain that people are going south to shop all the time, yet they’re not willing to step up to the bat to do something about it.  And that’s what the chamber is all about — is getting people involved, getting people to shop locally, giving businesses recognition in town here.”

Veteri says the chamber is open to any business owner, big or small.

He says unless more members are signed up, the organization could be shut down in a couple of months.
