Workers hired by the Town of La Ronge begin the task of delivering census forms this evening.
Town officials appealed the latest federal census which indicated a drop in the town’s population.
Mayor Thomas Sierzycki says local workers have the advantage of being familiar with the town, and that should lead to a more accurate population count:
“La Ronge people know where people live, and that’s the biggest thing that was missed in the prior census . . . outside people conducting our census didn’t really have a feeling for where people lived and how to access people that may not be easily accessible.”
Census forms will be dropped off at homes over the next three evenings, but Sierzycki says it is possible that some people could be missed:
“If you are missed, an enumerator card will be left on your front door or in your window. You have the option of: a) calling the town office and scheduling a time to go down to fill out the forms; or b) a census worker will come back to your home in those six nights — so hopefully, you’re home between 6:00 and 9:00 one of those nights.”
The census forms will be collected the evenings of next Tuesday through Thursday.
