Well a good deed on a cold stretch of winter ice is being remembered today by a grateful family.
It was just a few weeks ago that Stan Reynolds and his family were driving across Lake Athabasca.
Suddenly their truck fell about one and a half feet through the ice and stopped.
Reynolds says he thought they were all going to drown as they scrambled away from the vehicle.
They began walking towards Stony Rapids for help and had been going for a few hours when a man appeared in a truck behind them.
It seems Peter Fern had come upon the stranded vehicle and began following the family’s footprints in the snow.
Reynolds says the good Samaritan even cancelled his trip to Saskatoon and pulled their truck out:
“We were so grateful we couldn’t believe it. Me and my wife were just in shock, and horrified we went through ice.”
He adds another man, Laurent Noey, also helped pull the truck out.
