A date has been set to hold a Metis Nation Legislative Assembly, followed by an Annual General Meeting.
The two events will take place on June 16 and 17 in Prince Albert.
At that time, a date will be chosen to hold the next MN-S election.
Members of the Provincial Metis Council held a meeting in Saskatoon yesterday where the plans were made.
MN-S president Robert Doucette says he is pleased the council was able to sit down and schedule the session:
“The two things that are of importance at the Metis Nation Legislative Assembly are the setting of an election date and the hiring of the chief electoral officers.”
In addition, the PMC will meet one more time on May 25th and 26th.
A committee has also been struck to ensure the lead-up to the MNLA goes smoothly. That five-member group is made up of vice-president Allan Morin, area directors Karen Larocque, Bev Worsley and Robert Lafontaine and youth president Erin Hurton.
Ray Laliberte is one of the candidates taking part in the presidential race.
He says he is pleased proper processes are being followed:
“I attended and I was glad to be part of the first formal provincial council meeting held since the fall of 2010. I attended as an observer.”
He adds the decision was also made to wind down the current terms of the executive and the area directors by the end of May.
