About two dozen researchers from Canadian universities recently gathered in Saskatoon to discuss issues affecting the province’s north.
The International Centre for Northern Governance and Development organized the gathering at the University of Saskatchewan.
Centre director Greg Poelzer says one of the things they want to do is look at the policies provinces have for their northern regions:
“We don’t really have a good sense of what the actual northern policies are for each of the provinces. That’s never been collected, assessed and compared. So that’s a big project we want to take on over the next year.”
Poelzer says the “provincial north” includes remote areas which are not part of the Yukon, Northwest Territories or Nunavut.
