The Black Lake First Nation is preparing for an election — and the hope is it won’t be as controversial as the last one.
Unofficial sources say the vote will take place on June 25th.
People running for chief include Raymond MacDonald, Ann Gordon-Toutsaint, Corinne Sayazie, Ricky Robillard and incumbent Donald Sayazie.
Just over two dozen people are running for seats on council.
The band’s last election two years ago saw Sayazie acclaimed as chief after his lone challenger was ruled ineligible.
Some community members were also angered by the sudden resignation of the original chief electoral officer just days before the vote, and the unexplained destruction of the ballots cast in that election.
