The city of Moose Jaw will be hosting its first pow wow in nearly 20 years this Saturday.
A local Aboriginal group felt it was high time to hold another one and consider making it an annual event.
Pow wow organizer Isabelle Hanson says it’s about celebrating a proud tradition:
“They will embrace this way of life — and it’s a good way of life, because you learn your tradition and you learn about the culture through pow wow. The responses I’ve received from everyone has been really positive; from the mayor’s office. I think Moose Jaw is ready for this. What we’d like to do is leave the past behind, you know. The past is over.”
Last weekend, the city of Meliville hosted its first pow wow ever.
About 1,500 people showed up and it went well.
However, there was one unfortunate incident.
Someone put up a poster on a community bulletin board, which demanded the mayor resign and included some racially-insensitve comments.
