A walk to remember murdered and missing women from the Onion Lake Cree Nation will be held tomorrow.

Organizer Ruby Whitstone says one of the seven women being remembered is her sister, Violet Marie Heathen, who was last seen in May 2009.

Whitstone says she wants to raise awareness and hopefully get new information about her sister’s disapperance.

She says it is hoped the walk will motivate someone with knowledge of the circumstances to come forward:

“Nobody has been charged — so I thought, “Why not a walk? Maybe it can strike something”.  Whoever did it probably has seen what we’re doing.  And I was hoping whoever knew about my sister would come forward, say something, or turn himself in.”

The walk begins with a 9:00 a.m. ceremony at Lloydminster City Hall and continues north along Highway 17.

When the walkers reach the North Saskatchewan River, they will be met by another procession with horses and wagons — because Whitstone’s sister loved wagon and horseback rides.

Anyone interested is welcome to take part.
