The province is defending a plan to close homes for high-risk youth.
Yesterday, SGEU President Bob Bymoen said the closure could cause problems — because high-risk youth could be housed with low-risk youth.
Social Services Minister June Draude says steps are being taken to prevent that:
“We have 100 group homes right now. And we are able to assess the children and determine what group home where they would fit the best. And there is always one-one-one decision-making when it comes to assessing where these children would go.”
The homes will be closed in Prince Albert, Saskatoon and Regina.
Three of them will close within 60 days, but it’s not known when the other two will be shut down.
